Dal 28 al 30 settembre u.s. si è tenuta a Lecce la Conferenza
Internazionale del Coordinamento WONCA Italia dal titolo ”Prevenire
l’eccesso di cure con l’ascolto e la condivisione”. La proposta di una
riflessione sul tema della sovramedicalizzazione rappresenta la
prosecuzione dei lavori di questo evento internazionale che ha visto la
partecipazione, tra gli altri, del Presidente di WONCA Europa Prof.ssa
Anna Stavdal e dell’ideatore del concetto stesso di prevenzione
quaternaria Prof. Marc Jamoulle.

Per maggiori informazioni ecco l’invito:Following the Vasco da Gama Movement tradition, the 5th Forum will present you the opportunity to participate in an exchange programme. Participants will shadow Portuguese Family Doctors
in the Porto metropolitan area and learn about the Portuguese healthcare
system. Participants are expected to share basics about their
countries’ healthcare systems.The exchange will be an excellent opportunity to share best practices and find solutions for daily struggles. The exchange will last for 4 days (January 22nd – 25th,
2018) and will include two and a half days at a Family Doctor’s
practice. Please note that participants are expected to arrive on the
morning of Monday January 22nd, as the first group activity will happen on Monday afternoon.In short:When? From 22/01/2018 to 25/01/2018
Landing on Monday January 22nd, 2018 in the morning;
January 22nd (afternoon): presentation of
the Portuguese healthcare system followed by a detailed description of
the exchange activities and a first introduction between participants
and hosts at the Northern Region Coordination of the Family Medicine
Residency Program;
January 23rd, 24th and morning of 25th: activities at your host’s practice;
24th January (evening): group dinner;
January 25th (afternoon): optional social activity [to be announced];
January 26th-27th: 5th Vasco da Gama Movement Forum.
Where? Porto metropolitan area.We are trying to arrange free accommodation with the
hosts during the exchange period. Nevertheless Porto is a city with
a broad range of accommodation options, from low cost hostels to high
end hotels. The local team will be happy to help participants find the
best place to stay! Please check the Accommodation section of this website for more information. Nelle ultime decadi la medicina scientifica ha fatto grandi passi
avanti. Il potenziamento delle tecniche diagnostiche e di imaging, le
terapie farmacologiche, le nuove tecniche operatorie e interventistiche
hanno prodotto un notevole miglioramento delle cure, portando a
guarigione malattie che fino a non molti anni fa erano considerate
incurabili.
Esistono però (certamente) risvolti negativi di tale potenziamento,
legati non soltanto ad inappropriatezza o agli effetti avversi o
collaterali, ma anche alle conseguenze insite nella pratica di alcune
tecniche diagnostiche o terapeutiche. Un esempio particolarmente
significativo riguarda la sovra-diagnosi negli screening per cui,
accanto al raggiungimento di diagnosi precoci che consentono un migliore
e meno invasivo trattamento di patologie severe, sussiste una quota di
pazienti diagnosticati e trattati in cui la malattia non avrebbe di per
sé mai prodotto sintomi o conseguenze sulla salute.
Esiste ormai una corposa letteratura, riguardante un numero
significativo di patologie tumorali, che calcola con sufficiente
approssimazione l’entità del problema. Corre perciò l’obbligo per il
medico che propone uno screening al proprio paziente di comunicare
vantaggi e possibili svantaggi della metodica proposta.
In realtà la sovra-medicalizzazione, intesa come uso improprio o
eccessivo dei servizi sanitari, è un problema generalizzato oggi, non
soltanto nei paesi sviluppati, e rischia di produrre più danni che
vantaggi ai pazienti, senza considerare il problema connesso
all’incremento dei costi della sanità. Si va affermando con sempre
maggiore diffusione la cultura della ricerca spasmodica della malattia
di fronte a qualsiasi disturbo, anche non necessariamente connesso a
manifestazioni cliniche di patologia, che molte volte genera
sovra-trattamento e possibile danno per il paziente. Un fenomeno
culturale, favorito senz’altro dalla pressione dell’industria sanitaria
(del farmaco o delle tecnologie) e frequentemente dalle associazioni
professionali.
Si è andato così sviluppando negli anni più recenti il concetto di
Prevenzione Quaternaria, intesa come un’azione diretta ad identificare
un paziente a rischio di sovra-medicalizzazione, per proteggerlo da
eccessivi interventi medici e per suggerire procedure diagnostiche o
terapeutiche eticamente accettabili.
I concetti sovra-esposti sono poco conosciuti tra i medici, non
esistendo un’informazione indipendente che illustri l’importanza di
tenerli nella debita considerazione nella propria azione quotidiana. Il
convegno di WONCA Italia ha lo scopo di aggiornare le conoscenze
connesse a sovra-diagnosi e sovra-medicalizzazione al fine di stimolare
un atteggiamento informato e critico dei medici di fronte ai problemi
che i pazienti pongono quotidianamente.
Il convegno si avvarrà della partecipazione di ospiti italiani e
stranieri, che sono considerati in campo internazionale punti di
riferimento in tema di sovra-diagnosi e prevenzione quaternaria.

Dear all, We would like to invite our colleagues from the Vasco da
Gama Movement to participate in a conference exchange in Portugal, in
the beautiful city of Vila Real. This conference exchange is linked to
the 16th National Meeting for Junior Family Doctors and the 21st
National Congress for Family Medicine (29th September – 1st October). How it works:
Arrival should be booked for the 25 of September (ideally to Oporto
airport; from here participants will need to take the train/bus to Vila
Real – more details will be given to participants later).
From the 26 to the 28 of September, participants will be able to observe the daily activities of a Portuguese Primary Care Unit.
From the 29 to 30 September participants will be attending the
Conference. Participants will be asked to prepare a short presentation
about the national Health System to present at the conference. The
official language of the conference is Portuguese but there will be some
sessions in English.
We are also planning a social program so that networking is easier and more fun!
What is included:
Accommodation from the 25 September until 30 September.
Registration fee for both the 16th National Meeting for Junior
Family Doctors and the 21st National Congress for Family Medicine.

**German Preconference Exchange September 2017 in Düsseldorf**
Dear Vasco da Gamiens,
we are very happy to announce the 2nd German Preconference Exchange from 18th to 23th September 2017 in Düsseldorf Germany. We offer 7 placements.
The pre-conference exchange includes:
Hospitation in a German primary care practice from 18th-19th September in Düsseldorf and sourrounding villages/cities.
An international half-day workshop at the congress location on 20th September in
Düsseldorf. Participants of the exchange will report their experiences,
present their health care system and learn some more details about
German primary care. All together, we will explore differences and
similarities of primary health care systems in Europe.
In the afternoon/evening of the 20th September in Düsseldorf there
will be some social program (sightseeing etc.). We plan to organise a
city tour and a come-together with other German trainees.
The 21th September participants will attend the annual meeting of the German Young Primary Care Doctors Movement (JADE) in the morning.
From 21th September (afternoon) to 23th September will be invited to our 51th national
congress of the German College for General Practitioners and
Family Medecine (DEGAM). All participants in the preconference exchange
do have a free ticket to attend the conference
Please note, that accommodation and
travel expenses have to be payed by the participants. As for
accommodation, we will organise either an accommodation with the host or
a shared flat or hostel room during the exchange or congress time in
Düsseldorf and sourrounding cities, respectively. Pleas not, that
payment of the accommodation is to be made by the participants.
The preconference exchange includes
attending both – the host practice hospitation and the Conference. We
expect our participants to actively participate at the workshop and
provide a short presentation about their home primary care system (
about 10 to 15 minutes) for their international collegues.
Please note, that the patient
communication during the stay in the host practices is in German and the
DEGAM Conference’s language is in German, only key note lectures are in
English. So, that moderate to advanced German language skills would be
helpful to attend the exchange and the conference. Due to
our capacities we could currently not provide any translator, but we
will provide buddies which will answer you any questions you have during
the conference!
We ask interested exchange volunteers to
apply until 8th June to their national coordinators. Placement
confirmation will be given one week later. Please include your CV also
stating your language abilities in your application. We are looking
forward to welcome you in Germany !!!
**UK Preconference Exchange October 2017 in Liverpool**
We have five places on this fantastic exchange opportunity!
Applicants need to be a GP trainee or junior GP (within 5 years of training completion)
A
successful place will fund one conference ticket (worth over £300), one
gala dinner ticket and one young doctor’s dinner ticket.
Provisional plan 8th-15th October 2017
· Arrive Liverpool Sunday- welcome meeting and touristic event
· Monday and Tuesday- Exposure to UK General Practice (and social meetings each night)
· Wednesday RCGP Preconference
· Thursday Poster presentations (exact date TBC), RCGP main conference, young doctor’s dinner
· Friday Main conference and gala dinner
· Saturday Main conference in the morning, social activity in the afternoon
· Sunday (or Saturday night) depart
IMPORTANT: Part
of the application form includes an abstract. This will be used to rank
(mark) your application. If you are successful, the abstract will be
the basis of a poster which you would present at the conference. It can
be a project, audit, case study etc but must be summarised using the
standard format of title/ background/methods/ results and conclusion.

We’re very proud to announce the upcoming LOVAH Conference Exchange in March 2017 in the Netherlands!
Accompanying
the congress we would like to give you the opportunity to participate
in an exchange program. You will get familiar with the Dutch primary
care system. To help you out with all the new impressions, a “buddy”
GP-trainee will guide you through the program. It contains a visit in a
dutch GP-practice, a day of lectures by interesting speakers including a
cultural program and the conference on the final day ending with a
great conference party!
Program:
21 March: arrival, overnight stay arranged by Dutch GP
22 March: day at the GP-practice and overnight stay arranged by Dutch GP
23 March: lectures and cultural program, pre-event dinner and party, overnight stay at hotel arranged by WES.
24
March: LOVAH-conference “Beyond boundaries!” in Utrecht (30
minutes from Amsterdam), congres dinner and party, overnight stay at
hotel arranged by WES. The conference has an English program.
